What the cluster does

Piraeus and the surrounding suburbs hold the densest concentration of shipowning companies anywhere in the world, overwhelmingly in tramp bulk and tanker trades and overwhelmingly family-controlled. The consequences are practical: a very deep local labour market of superintendents and operators, an established repair zone at Perama, and a commercial culture in which relationships and reputation carry unusual weight.

  • Largest owning cluster globally
  • Deep superintendent and operator labour market
  • Tramp bulk and tanker expertise
  • Local repair and supply chain
